A personal journey through the music of Judy Collins

HIGHLIGHTS OF MY FAVORITE ALBUMS

I believe the first Judy Collin's album I bought, or was given to me, around 1970. I was a romantic high school student, and used to drive my parents "crazy", listening to, for hours... "WHO KNOWS WHERE THE TIME GOES",... "MY FATHER",... "SOMEDAY SOON" and all the other greats on this wonderful album, I still love it! (My parents became major JUDY COLLINS FANS!)

COLORS OF THE DAY
COLORS OF THE DAY

A high school graduation gift. Major favorite, an album owned by every member of the Rowe Family! Everyone of us loves ..."AMAZING GRACE", ..."SUZANNE", ..."SUNNY GOODGE STREET", ..."SONS OF...", ..."IN MY LIFE", ..."SINCE YOU ASKED", and on and on... This led me to the "earlier" folk albums...

Words can't describe these achingly beautiful song, that are my favorites to this day. Songs like ..."CRUEL MOTHER", that cello, that voice! ..."LORD GREGORY", sung a cappella, is beyond words ...and"THE COMING OF THE ROADS" could move the hardest of hearts... any "FAN" has got to journey through the past and timelessness of these songs!

What a leap into the 70's, this album was. With so many favorites, like... "CITY OF NEW ORLEANS", (I learned to sing and play this song because of this album!), ..."BUDDY CAN YOU SPARE A DIME?" ..."I'LL BE SEEING YOU"... and of course, the classic version of all time, ..."SEND IN THE CLOWNS"!!!

Oops! Let's back up to around 1971! This "live" album, is an all-time favorite of mine. With ..."JOAN OF ARC" sends my Catholic soul into new realms! ..."EASY TIMES", and ..."INNISFREE" are pure poetry at it's best! ...And a very favorite of mine, Leonard Cohen's masterpiece, ..."FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT", continues to move me! ...And can't forget, the ultimate song of defiance ..."TOM THUMB'S BLUES"!

TIMES OF OUR LIVES
TIMES OF OUR LIVES

This album is just the most sensitive creation, by our most sensitve artist, filled with contemporary songs, Broadway greats, and other beautiful ballads. Of course, my favorite, "MEMORY", from the play CATS. Released around 1982.

This 1990 Columbia release, is stunning!!! The title song is a contemporary pop masterpiece, and speaking of MASTERPIECES ..."THE BLIZZARD" should rank as a JUDY COLLINS' MASTERPIECE OF ALL TIMES!!! (At least it stirred this soul into new realsms!!!)

COME REJOICE
A JUDY COLLINS CHRISTMAS
TIMES OF OUR LIVES

Long awaited. Every song on this great holiday album is sweet, innovative, and filled with Christmas magic! ..."THE LITTLE ROAD TO BETHLEHEM", is a favorite of mine, the traditional songs too, but most of all, "COME REJOICE", which I recorded on my own album, "CHRISTMAS BELLS", (a 1996 release on the HEARTBEAT RECORDS label). If you love Christmas, as I do, you need this album NOW, and also ... "CHRISTMAS AT THE BILTMORE", a 1998 release.

...And all the others, in between and still to come like "CLASSIC BROADWAY", "BOTH SIDES NOW"!!! Remember, these are only highlights, of a remarkable career, and my MOST favorites, 'cause I love them ALL!!! The "Broadway" album is wonderful, lots of familiar favorites, those carefully choosen, that haven't been over-done by other artists. "BOTH SIDES NOW" is a new, folk-music dream! ..."BARBARA ALLEN", ..."BLACK IS THE COLOR", incredible!!! "COLLINS LIVE AT WOLFTRAP" is a must have! Judy's proud of this one, and rightly so!!!
