AN ALL INCLUSIVE COUNCIL OF CITIZENS DEDICATED TO CONTRIBUTING IDEAS FOR BUILDING 'WORLD CLASS' COMMUNITIES

(Goal for Kalamazoo County: 2000 or more members by end of second year)

WITH THE VISION COUNCIL WE CAN:

  • Using privately owned and or publicly provided computers available to everyone throughout the community in libraries, schools and other public places and eventually by using phones connected to voice recognition equipment, THE VISION COUNCIL could connect all participating citizens, governmental officials and other community decision makers, into a local electronic network such as "TeleCITY@ which would provide an effective and efficient two way means of dialogue, discussion and continuous communication.
  • Establish a 'FORUM' for participating citizens to discuss major issues facing the community.
  • Assure all participating members equal exposure of their ideas concerns and suggestions.
  • Organize information into subject areas for easy access and analysis.
  • Provide a compelling source of information for governmental decision makers.
  • Enable Neighborhood groups and other community organizations to effectively communicate on a two way basis, exclusively with only their own members or with all members of the Vision Council.
  • Link citizens to the decision makers before the decisions are made, including those citizens unable, unwilling, too busy or perhaps too shy to come to and speak at a commission, council, or board meeting or otherwise communicate with governmental officials.
  • Create a means for public officials to explain their decisions and actions to a broad base of citizens.
  • EMPOWER the community as a whole and lessen the strength of "special interests".
  • Build consensus on major community issues and goals.
  • Focus Public Opinion.
  • Energize community action.
  • UNITE the COMMUNITY.
